The Belleri case goes beyond litigation. It is a question of violating the rights of a recognized national minority at the international level and on a bilateral basis an attempt by the deep Albanian state to take out its repressed forces against Greece.
There are three points on which the international actor and international public opinion should focus.
-In Himara, the mayoral candidate who lost the election is still in charge and the elected mayor is in jail.
-Freddy Beleris was sentenced, despite the many loopholes in the process, to 2 years in prison for 340 euros. That is, there is no proportionality of punishment and offense.
-The judge in the case was arrested in Greece for violation of entry into the country. That is, the question of her objective judgment is raised.
For these and many other reasons, the Albanian regime must be held accountable to European public opinion.
Unfortunately, many in Athens believe that Greece’s Balkan policy should be based on non-Slavic Albania.
The Albanian deep state spews hatred against Greece and the Greeks even though the country was able to hold on to its post-communist steps thanks to Hellenism. Athens cannot form a policy, even towards weak entities, such as Albania, which consciously provoke it with their behavior.
Albanians have found international patrons in the USA and Turkey and Europe. . This was also seen in the case of Kosovo (NATO itself fought for them) and in the case of the European Union, whose paper collars come out and point the finger at Athens when it timidly declares that it will veto Tirana’s European course.
Turkey applies an Ottoman policy towards Tirana that goes beyond the narrow horizon of Ankara. In contrast to Athens, which is navel-gazing and its horizon is exhausted at the limits of the capital, Turkey utilizes the Ottoman tradition – and politics – and encloses in its influence the countries in the Balkans that act as its long arm.
The effectiveness of a similar policy from Greece in the name of its universal culture would be greater, but in Athens, they never believed in universal Hellenism. If you don’t believe something, you can’t implement its policy.
PS: when the text was written, the leak of Athens that it is annoyed by not being invited to the opening of the NATO air base in the neighboring country was not known. Above all else, Athenian politics lacks dignity. When you have to show your fist, you don’t go out and beg your opponent for an invitation. After all, the base is NATO and if Athens had to turn to NATO, it was NATO. Not to leak annoyance from Albania’s behavior. It should be noted that the Greek Air Force monitors the airspace of Albania for a fortnight.
