APPEAL TO EUROPEAN CITIZENS AND THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has sent a file to the Hellenic Parliament for further investigation into the misuse of European funds by two former ministers of the current Mitsotakis government: Makis Voridis and Lefteris Avgenakis.
The government majority, acting under orders from Mitsotakis and debasing every notion of parliamentary democracy, decided that there is no need for a Parliamentary Preliminary Investigation Committee to examine the scandal, claiming that there is insufficient evidence. But that is precisely the role of a Preliminary Committee — to investigate whether evidence exists.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was not only aware of the scandalous misuse of European funds; photographs of him with the central figures of the scandal have been published. The Prime Minister is covering up the scandal by employing parliamentary tactics that dismantle every concept of democracy.
Greece is no longer even a nominal Western democracy. It is a postmodern dictatorship.
In a country where the judiciary is appointed by the government and directed through public statements by the Prime Minister, where Parliament resembles a military unit, where the media have been nationalized through continuous government funding, and where the President of the Republic is essentially appointed by the Prime Minister, the final refuge of hope would be the government’s restraint in the face of public opinion — the sense that if the people become aware of its corruption, there will be political consequences.
With Mr. Mitsotakis’s conduct in Parliament, even that last taboo has been breached.
No pretenses remain. The message is: steal, and we will protect you if you are one of us. The corruption of society is becoming complete.
Greece is a postmodern dictatorship.
If the political regime’s problem is primarily a matter for the Greek people to resolve, there is something that concerns all European citizens.
It is not merely a matter of misuse of European funds. These funds are being misappropriated with the knowledge of Prime Minister Mitsotakis, by government and party officials.
Help restore democracy in Greece — even in its most basic form.
